Background of the Study
In Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State, the increasing reliance on digital tools for both educational and administrative functions in secondary schools has revealed the inadequacy of existing network infrastructures. Many schools are plagued with unreliable network connections, slow internet speeds, and poor local area networks (LANs), which hinder the smooth delivery of educational content and management tasks (Usman & Ibrahim, 2024). The optimization of network infrastructure is essential to improve connectivity, facilitate better online learning experiences, and support the increasing use of digital resources. This study will examine the current state of network infrastructure in these schools and explore optimization strategies to improve performance and reliability.

Statement of the Problem
Secondary schools in Potiskum face significant challenges related to outdated or poorly designed network infrastructures. Poor network performance impacts various aspects of education, from accessing online learning materials to facilitating administrative functions. These inefficiencies result in wasted time, poor communication, and interruptions in the learning process. The study will explore methods for optimizing network infrastructure to support the growing demand for digital tools in these schools.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the current state of network infrastructure in secondary schools in Potiskum.

  2. To identify factors that contribute to poor network performance in these schools.

  3. To propose optimization strategies to enhance the reliability and efficiency of network infrastructures.

Research Questions

  1. What is the current state of network infrastructure in secondary schools in Potiskum?

  2. What are the primary challenges that affect network performance in these schools?

  3. How can network infrastructure be optimized to support the educational and administrative needs of these schools?

Research Hypotheses

  1. There is a significant relationship between optimized network infrastructure and improved educational performance in secondary schools.

  2. Poor network infrastructure significantly affects the quality of education and administrative functions in secondary schools in Potiskum.

  3. Optimizing network infrastructure will significantly reduce disruptions in online learning and administrative processes.

Significance of the Study
This study will provide valuable insights into the importance of robust network infrastructures in secondary schools. The findings will inform strategies for enhancing network performance, thereby improving online learning and administrative efficiency.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on secondary schools in Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State. It will examine the infrastructure related to networking, internet connectivity, and LAN setup. A limitation may include limited access to detailed technical data from all the schools in the area.

Definitions of Terms

  • Network Infrastructure: The hardware and software resources that facilitate internet access, connectivity, and data sharing within an organization.

  • Optimization: The process of improving network efficiency by addressing performance issues and enhancing resource management.

LAN (Local Area Network): A network that connects computers within a limited area, such as a school, to enable data exchange and internet
